Can I start numbering from a page other than 1?

Yes. A start number offset lets you begin from any number, useful when combining chapters or adding front matter later.

Will the numbers cover existing content?

Page numbers are drawn at the edge of the page with a configurable margin, minimising overlap with body content. Increase the margin if your document has edge-aligned content.
